RUCHIN KANSAL

Ruchin Kansal is a CEO and board advisor, professor, and author with 20 years of operating experience inside some of the world’s most complex healthcare and life sciences organizations.

Ruchin Kansal is a CEO, board advisor, professor, and author with 20 years of experience leading transformation in healthcare and life sciences, grounded in his architectural expertise.

After earning his architecture degree, Ruchin practiced as an architect, developing a focus on human-centered design, systems thinking, and structural precision. These principles have shaped his subsequent work.

He completed his MBA at NYU Stern and spent a decade in management consulting, building new divisions, launching ventures and products, and driving commercial transformation at Deloitte, Capgemini, and Ernst & Young.

Over the next decade, he held leadership roles at Boehringer Ingelheim and Siemens Healthineers. As Head of Business Innovation & Transformation at Boehringer Ingelheim, he established the company’s first business innovation department, launched the world’s first connected inhaler in over 10 major health systems, and formed partnerships with Humana, Anthem, and Sutter Health. As a program board advisor at Stanford Med X, he was invited by the Obama White House to contribute to the Precision Medicine Initiative. At Siemens Healthineers, as SVP of Digital Strategy, he defined and executed the global digital strategy for a $20B medtech organization, securing Board approval and leading implementation across key functions.

Through Kansal & Company, Ruchin advises select CEOs and boards on governance and decision quality at critical inflection points where institutional decision-making is a constraint. While his background is in healthcare and life sciences, his advisory services extend to any complex, regulated institution where governance and decision quality are essential.

He offers a research-based perspective on leadership in complex organizations, informed by primary research with over 12,000 future leaders worldwide through the Future of Leadership Survey and refined through executive teaching at Brown University, Seton Hall University, and the Wharton Global C-Suite Executive Program.

Ruchin is co-founder of the Elite Global Leadership Institute, a selective program in Spain that brings together exceptional young people to foster leadership conviction and capacity early in their development.

He is the founding editor of In The Lead, a global leadership magazine, and leads the Future of Leadership Survey, which collects insights from citizens aged 18–30 across North America, South America, the EU, and Asia. He is the author of Redefining Innovation (Routledge), The Kansal Clunker (Koehler Books), its Indian adaptation, Where the Highway Ends (Readomania), and the forthcoming Work Signals (Taylor & Francis). He has contributed to Digital Strategies and Organizational Transformation (World Scientific) and writes regularly for Wharton Healthcare Quarterly.

In his free time, he enjoys being with his wife, Gunjan, his son, Neil, and their dog, Roo. An avid traveler, Ruchin has visited all 50 states and over 30 countries. Experiences with the landscapes of the Indian Himalayas, Swiss Alps, Canadian Rockies, and Argentinean Andes; the cuisines of Mexico, Morocco, and Turkey; the cultures of Peru, Italy, Greece, and China; the efficiency of Japan, Germany, and Dubai; and the hospitality of Kenya and Nepal have all shaped his perspective on the world and the organizations he serves.

Ruchin Kansal

I had the privilege of being invited to the Obama White House to share ideas on involving patients in healthcare research to drive precision medicine. I have served on the Board of Directors for Stanford Medicine X from 2014-2017 and Weston Education Foundation from 2018 – 2019.

In his first book, he shares what he’s learned over the years to help healthcare companies innovate. He has contributed a chapter in Digital Strategies and Organizational Transformation where he writes that true transformation of the healthcare industry will happen once digital skill sets are fully incorporated in the training and development of the healthcare workforce and its leadership.

He is also the lead researcher for the Future of Leadership survey focused on gathering insight and foresight on the future of leadership from the perspective of 18–30-year-old citizens. He is the co-editor of In The Lead, a semi-annual magazine with the mission to inform future leaders, generate global dialog on the topic of leadership, and build a community of leaders that see more effective leadership as a prerequisite to building a better world.  Ruchin is also the director of “The 5thIndustrial Revolution,” a Vodcast and graduate-level course exploring the intersection of the human condition, health technology, and space exploration and developing leaders that are comfortable with ambiguity, analytical problem solvers, and good crisis managers.

His experiences have made him realize that leaders and teams need to transform to deliver real change. Only then can any transformation program succeed. This has led him to develop his self-awareness as a leader further and invest in becoming a leader-coach to enable people to become their best leaders. Ruchin is certified to offer EQ-I 2.0 and Hogan Assessments.

"I'm a builder at heart. I am at my best when I am building new companies, business units, products, and high-performing teams."

In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife Gunjan (a physician), son Neil (a cellist) and their dog Roo. Always a traveler at heart and throughout his childhood, Ruchin now travels with his family, having visited all 50 states in the US, and more than 30 countries and counting. The peace, tranquil, and awe-inspiring vastness of the Indian Himalayas, the Swiss Alps, the Canadian Rockies and the Argentinean Andes; the culinary delights of Mexico, Morocco, and Turkey; historic cultures of Peru, Italy, Greece, and China; the efficiency of Japan, Germany and Dubai; the hospitality of Kenya and Nepal; all have unconsciously shaped his being and view of the world.
